Join us for this three day class to learn the traditional practice of tanning deer hides into soft and supple buckskin. Participants will learn the entire tanning process and leave the workshop with a finished hide. The first day of class will be on March 20th where we will cover an overview of the process and begin scraping hides. We will meet back up on April 3rd and 4th to soften and smoke the finished hides. If weather is unfavorable we may not be able to finish the process, but you will leave with the knowledge to finish at home. Please note that this class involves physically strenuous activity.
Accommodations + Food
Somerset is about 15 minutes from the farm and there you will find various hotels and bed and breakfasts. On-farm camping is available with primitive accommodations and you will need a good tent and warm sleeping bag.
All meals will be on your own. We ask that you take any trash with you when you leave.
Other Considerations
We ask that you leave your dogs and drugs at home. We are a working farm with livestock.
