Join us on March 22-24th to learn the traditional practice of tanning deer hides into soft and supple buckskin. Participants will learn the entire tanning process and leave the workshop with a finished hide. The class will begin Friday afternoon and participants are encouraged to be at the farm by 1 PM. Let us know if you can’t be here by then. We will start each morning at 9AM and finish the class Sunday afternoon with the smoking process. If weather is unfavorable we may not be able to finish the process, but you will leave with the knowledge to finish at home. Please note that this class involves physically strenuous activity.
Accommodations + Food
Somerset is about 15 minutes from the farm and there you will find various hotels and bed and breakfasts. On-farm camping is available with primitive accommodations and you will need a good tent and warm sleeping bag.
Dinner on Friday and Saturday evening will be provided with meals made with fresh foods from the farm. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions/food allergies. Breakfast and lunch are on your own. We will have limited refrigerator space and a basic propane burner available to store and prepare food that you bring yourself. We ask that you take any trash with you when you leave.
We ask that you leave your dogs and drugs at home. We are a working farm with livestock.
Tours of the farm will be available as we have down time throughout the process.
Course fee: $250 ($50 deposit due with registration)
Please send full payment by March 1st.
Please contact Micah at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about the workshop. Thanks!
